killing for food for survival, i can understand. killing for fun, i cannot. your primary motive is not to feed, but to kill. sad. this makes me a queer, i will rather be one, than one of you. some day some aliens are going to come with some ass-fry guns and shoot your balls for fun. see how it feels then.

Commercial fishing does not just feed people. There is allot of waste associated with it. Hundreds of your beloved sharks, dolphins, turtles and more get tangled up in their nets and die. The carcases are pushed overboard. This waste is far greater than a spearo who kills a shark that may have posed a threat to him, which he may or may not have eaten.

Besides fewer sharks is more game fish available for people to eat.

Many of these fish could be taken to the market if not consumed. Note above that many are given away. Many deer hunters donate their meat away also.

Spearing is MUCH more work thant line fishing and more dangerous. Ballance the probability of getting fish with the caloric consumption and line fisherman have the upper hand. The benefit to spearing is that you can pick your target, choose not to pull the trigger. Line fisherman generaly have no guarantee what will end up on their line.

The haul from spearos is less than a small fraction of accidental death from line fishermen.

"119 lb Wahoo from last year. Just a few lbs short of the World Record. The visibility was about as bad as it gets. On the surface was less than a few inches. I had to put my watch against my mask to see it."

I'm keenly interested to learn more about hunting this kind of visibility and the techniques you use. This is the sort of viz I usualy have localy.

@Peter: When you are overloaded with fish, there is always people you can feed on the land. By this way, you are making less polution in the planet by eating "artificial" food. We spread fish if we don't sale it... but we never throw it in the garbage. Hope you got it.
I'm a spearfisher, and proud to be, one of the reason: I make a lot of pple happy when I give fish for free :)

Great Job guys.... Spearfishing is not only a sport or a hobby: it's almost everything!!! It teaches, it trains, it develops, it makes pple eat and happy... Bleu water is about 76% of the planet, let's use it more than we use the land!
Good luck for all spearfishers.

Hey German guy, hug a tree you queer. Cam is one guy who shoots a few big ones. Commercial fishing slaughters millions of tons of fish. We are recreational anglers and should be on the same side. Being as you are nowhere near any decent fishing, shut up.

Yert,

hey guy,

i see you are a very enthusiastic spearer.
you shoot marlins, sharks and everythings what ist nearly big in the sea.
are so hungry that you need so much to eat?
sorry, but i don't see a great sense by killing so beautiful animals.
especially by the marlin and here by the shark i cannot understand it any more.
my sisters girlfriend is from new zealand and he is also a spearer, but not a "i-shoot-everything-thats-big". he where also at some contest but at least he made it to have something to eat.
please tell me how do you feel when you shoot a marlin and have you all eaten or just made it for sports? and if it is only for sports what happens to the fish you shot?
i know you are only one guy of thousands who make it, but is it not enough to shoot what you can eat?
i don't think you are so hungry to have it all eaten up...

sorry for my direct contact, but i cannot understand and so i have to ask one man who is on the other side, you know what i mean?

greetings from germany
