When we first went to Fiji we kept hearing about this legend in the village who would spearfish without fins and he was pretty much the standard for badassness when it came to being hardcore.
He’d catch the bus every day with his speargun and get off a few miles down the road then walk to the beach and swim out to the edge of the reef. I imagine he screwed it up a few times, but he’d time his trips so that he could ride the current all the way back to his village shooting and then stringing the fish behind him along the way.
All the Fijians thought we were pretty wussful for using masks AND fins seeing as this guy shot an landed a 200+lb Grouper one time and then swam it without fins all the way back to the village.
So now I find this video and even further understand my wussfulness as a freediver. I seriously need to step my game up. I think my main problem is all this flashy gear. I’m going to see if I can find some of this guy’s trunks on line and maybe start sporting those.
This is pretty much the most badass underwater hunting video I’ve ever seen. I thought I was being traditional using a pole spear.. this guy is taking it to another level entirely.
You all ever run into any of the locals in the places you travel? Seen some sweet gear that belongs in a museum taking more fish than would seem possible?

That is an awesome video, I love seeing people do things in a minimalistic fashion and be just as successful as their counterparts that have all the “technology”.
Whoa. Makes the rest of us look pretty lame. Really dig how he walks on the bottom, ‘pulling’ himself forward with one hand.
Cam, he hunts just like you! Seriously, that dude has some tough feet. He could probably put his 3 minute bottom time to better use…and it became significantly less bad ass with the window shot on a butterfly fish at the climax.
Dude, humble beginnings. With those goggles on there was no telling what he thought he was looking at, that could have been a 50 lb Parrot fish for all he knew. Need to send that gun a mask and some flip flops at least
