Just got this email in from Conner Erwin who is hosting and organizing this new Tournament with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Should be a really fun tournament with good natured competition throughout and a good format to level the playing field and concentrate on the most important part of our sport. Having Fun!

Clearwater Classic
A Spearfishing Tournament benefiting the American Cancer Society

Here is an excerpt of the rules: (I think this format is different than most others)

This Tournament will start at 12:01 AM and end at 3:10PM. Competitors may leave from wherever they wish. All competitors must be back at the Clearwater Municipal Marina and in the weigh-in line, no later than 3:10 PM.

Generally speaking this is an aggregate tournament, but aggregate by individual category and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place overall aggregate. Additionally there is a separate category for 1st time spearfishing competitors. Trophies will be awarded for all individual categories + Top 1st Time Competitor and
Top 3 overall aggregate. All awards will be presented following the weigh-in.

Eligible fish categories, maximum per diver are as follows:
Hogfish: diver with maximum of 5 hogfish with greatest overall combined weight will be deemed winner of this category.

Mangrove Snapper: diver with maximum of 5 mangrove with greatest overall combined weight will be deemed winner of this category.

Sheepshead: diver with maximum of 5 sheepshead with greatest overall combined weight will be deemed winner of this category.

Grouper: Recreational limits allow a maximum bag limit of 4 grouper per diver, per day. Each of the allowed species also has their own bag limits: 2 Gag, 4 Black, 4 Scamp, 2 Red. Diver with greatest overall combined weight of 4 grouper of any legal variation will be deemed winner of this category..

Spanish / King Mackerel: 5 spanish, 2 King are allowed to be turned in per diver, with the total not to exceed five fish from this category (example 1 king & 4 spanish or 2 kings & 3 spanish or 5 spanish). Diver with greatest overall combined weight will be deemed winner of this category.

Amberjack / Cobia /Barracuda: 1 amberjack, 1 cobia, 1 Baracuda are allowed to be turned in per diver. Diver with greatest overall combined weight will be deemed winner of this category.

1st Time Competitor: Only Diver’s who are competing for the first time in a spearfishing tournament qualify. 1st time competitive diver with greatest overall combined points from any of the allowed categories / limits will be deemed winner of this category. Points for this category will be calculated as follows: 10 points per fish, ˝ point per pound for Amberjack/ Cobia / Barracuda, 1 point per pound for all other categories.

King Neptune: Diver with highest overall points from all allowed categories will be crowned “King Neptune” Points for this category will be calculated as follows: 10 points per fish, ˝ point per pound for Amberjack/ Cobia / Barracuda, 1 point per pound for all other categories. 2nd and 3rd place overall Aggregate will also receive trophy.
