We just booked our next big trip and will be headed to the East Coast of Africa with the same group we have been going with the past few years. We’ve gotten some great fish and had some exciting times along the way. If you have been following Spearblog at all you know that we have had some good trips with big fish and for those of you who want to shoot big Dogtooth Tuna look no further for the trip of a lifetime. There is no limit to the number of comments and the best one wins so read on to find out how to win the trip of a lifetime…
At first when we were looking at making the trip we were a bit sketched out by the whole Pirate factor seeing as the Maersk Alabama was taken and we were going to be in a small boat most of the time but after a few trips to that part of the world I made some good contacts and finally found a group I was comfortable with and who actually made it fun to hunt fish and foe.
There are so many options to choose from on that coast and with so few people wanting to travel there we’ve kind of had our pick of the best spots and really gotten into the fish. We weren’t really down with the whole hunting pirates thing so we made them keep the lights off at night and made a point of moving the boat every night so they couldn’t track us.
Of the 4 charters they did during the 2 months surrounding our trip there, 2!!! of the other boats were taken hostage by pirates! Not cool. As well we were undergunned and only had enough space for our Spearguns, two 9mm pistols and some crappy AK47′s that we were able to rent. (Make sure book your charter early and that they haven’t rented out all the other gear to the other boats so you don’t get caught empty handed like we did. When there are 3 boats coming at you and only 4 guns to go around having a 68 inch Tuna gun in your hands somehow feels extremely inadequate.)
Here are some pics from my first charter which was freaking awesome because I was able to get on with a group that was already totally kitted out with some badass gear. These guys did not F around and I was able to dive most of the spots by myself since all the wanted to do was watch for other boats to chase after. We surprised a few fisherman who weren’t stoked on the idea of having a 50 caliber MAchine gun pointed at them but we made friends and I gave them a few tunas and they in turn pointed us in the direction of so questionable boats they had seen earlier in the day.
Here is the link to the charter we have been using which I swear is the best out there. Ask for Muhammed (who we nicknamed Carl), and Eloufa (aka Elf) who were awesome the whole time and really made the trip.

As quoted from the website:
“It’s like a safari, only better
Safari” is the Swahili word for adventure and that’s just what we have in store for you.
We sail up and down the coast of Somalia waiting to get hijacked by pirates. We encourage you to bring your ‘High powered weapons’ along on the cruise. If you don’t have weapons of your own, you can rent them on the boat.”

Boston on the 50 Cal waiting for a big boat of A-holes to come and try to attack us and running cover for me while I'm diving

Fun little spot the Pirates like to hide behind. The diving right here is awesome though! Huuuuuuuge Dogtooth Tuna here if you can find this spot on the map.
These guys really live for the hunt and like I said while I’m always down for some adventure I was just happy to be able to dive and let the rest of the guys on the charter do the pirate hunting and most of the shooting.
When you are diving there and you hear another boat coming it is usually a really really bad thing so having some trigger happy buddies liquored up and on the Machine Gun was a huuuuuuge advantage. If you are looking to shoot big fish anywhere on the coast of Somalia, Northern Kenya, and around the South of Oman, I cannot recommend a better outfit than these guys. They put us on the fish and made me feel safe while we were diving.
If and when you make it down there tell the guys thanks again. This past trip was the best one we have had and you won’t be disappointed.
If you are interested in World Record Dogtooth Tuna I am giving away two spots on our next charter this year with these guys. So far on the trip are myself and Brandon Wahlers who has been in this area diving and working on ships so I feel comfortable with him diving deep and also watching my back when you start hearing small arms fire from these damn pirates who are all over the place over there.
Whoever can give me the best reason to take them on the trip of a lifetime in the next 24 hours will get to come with us. Best of luck and I can’t wait to dive with all of you in some of the richest waters on earth.
There is no limit to the # of reasons why you are the best travel partner to bring on this trip so let it fly. Best of luck and we will announce the winner on Saturday of this week!

I bring to the table: Tall stories, short rest times, bluewater serene confidence and I’m cool under fire. Pick me.
I build my own custom flashers (yes, Rob likes them) and started puddle-hopping 15 years ago. Now I brush off taxmen with disinterest and don’t waste a shot if it’s not a good un. A mahoosive doggy would be too cool for school but I’m after indica500. kg, not lb.
Got my u/w filming kit & camera, I take a good picture, I think on my feet or follow instruction, and I can arrange a few carbon guns for my mate Jim Unicolor. I’ll chow down on a few beers and share a laugh, or man the cannons.
Your move.
Waiting for the April fools. No way they can do this! haha! Would definitely be epic if they could. Those pirates definitely deserve it.
Free dive spearfishing is what I live for! As a college student I do not have the money or the time to make dream trips happen. I have the gear and capabilities to handle a trip like this and have your back. My buddy blacked out, I was there to save him. And I’ll bring a case of rum!!
I will give ANYTHING in the whole world to go spearfishing with you and i dont care about the price and time. i’ll make the money some how and i’ll find the time. you guys dont know how bad i want to do this. when i saw this post my jaw dropped because i know that i have a like 1 and 1000000 chance to win this trip. its not a very big chance but its still a chance.
Did I mention I love a good april fools joke?
I believe someone like me has to come along to properly document this extraordinary pursuit of spearfishing entertainment. I’m poor, young, and obligation free. I’m like a surgeon with a 50cal and can easily stone as many as 50 pirates in a day. It would be unreal to do a trip like this for someone like me as the kind of cash required for something like this is nowhere in my immediate future. I’m an excellent spotter and willing to film you guys the whole time diving deep and trying to break your own record. Expeditions to spearfish deep in pirate infested waters are not for everyone and it takes someone you can trust to be there in case of an emergency. I live for this sort of adventure and will easily hold my own with the diving, local beverages and entertainment alike. Most importantly though, everyone knows you and brando cant be trusted together and someone has to be there to make sure team riffe properly introduces “the wahlers” to another unsuspecting foreign nation…
My name is A.Jay Flack and I’m a 20 year old college student who lives in Jupiter, Florida. When i first saw this yesterday i was like this can’t be true, so not to get too gay here but when I was sixteen and had just started really getting into freediving and spearfishing I told my parents if I ever got one wish it would be to dive with you in perfect conditions shooting big ass fish and they had no idea who you were so i explained how you travel the world and spearfish and drive freighters. So for me to say that this would be the trip of a lifetime is a vast understatement. It is so much more than that it would honestly be a dream come true and a trip i would really remember for the rest of my life. As i said ive been freediving with some friends here since we were all about sixteen i have a breath hold of about 2:30 and the deepest I’ve ever dove was 117 i typically hunt the wrecks and reefs here in between 75-85 feet. I know I may seem like a spazz but this would truly be a dream come true, hunting doggies and pirates on a boat with cameron kirkconnell, i could die a happy man at that point. In actuality i’m real laid back with an adventurous side for sure. So please consider me for this trip.
Regards,
A.Jay Flack
Cameron and Crew… Where do I start? I have never left the continental United States but have always dreamed of doing so. Ive never had a ton of money but always dreamed of having it. Ive busted ass, worked a full time job, caught my wife of 7 yrs having an affair, became a single dad with full custody of my 5 yr old son… and still managed to keep a level head among the pain I have been dealt, finish writing and land a publisher for my novel… But thats all good. My 5 yr old can dive 10ft and retrieve 3 separate items from the bottom… I am teaching him the way of the water, that I had to learn myself ( and I am still learning ) This trip would be more than its face value… it would be me, an older guy ( late thirties) learning from a younger guy ( Cameron ) and everyone else im with. I have never taken a class but my breath hold is just over 5 minutes static… The knowledge I would bring back from this trip would be tenfold… not only would I retain it, but I would pass it on to my son. Who ever you pick will have one hell of a time! I hope its me… All the Best… Safari Tom
Trained by Chuck Norris himself… I’m man enough to shoot the pirate first, and use him for cut bait later on. Lifetime supply of squirrel meat if I get to go and since I’m in a good mood I’ll throw in a pair of Velcro Tiva’s for shits and gigs. not good enough, fine. Natty Ice on me the entire trip, all you can drink. 5.9 blow your mind.
Haha. April fools. Debunked.
