This isn’t the first or the last time you will see this test running around the net but its an easy one that any of you can do.
Do a proper breath up if you want, or just dive straight into it.
When you are ready, start the stopwatch and hold down the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz key.
Cheat if you want but you’re only fooling yourself!
At the end of your breath hold, write down your time and what you did for a breath up. We’ll see how everyones differs and if we can pick up some new techniques.
Good luck and you don’t get extra points for blacking out on land and busting your head on your desk so don’t push it too hard!
Good luck

So 3:10… not my best, but not bad for being severely out of shape and only getting in the water once in the past 9 months! Thanks for posting this, it is a fun way to stretch yourself!
And I have never been trained for any type of breath hold technique, but I start by a slow deep breathing rhythm, then increasing the depth of the breath so as to stretch my lungs. I then take in about 80% capacity, hold it for about 10 or 15 seconds, and release. I then take my full capacity, then pack until I feel like almost popping.
If anyone would like to critique me, I would love to increase my capacity! Advice would be helpful
2:16 Didn’t do much on the breath up but after i clicked start i then clicked on the link to Speardeals.com and watched their slideshow until it ended after about 2 min then sat there until i got bored holding my breath.
wooot…58 secs!
Whoo!!! I got -1 second! Is it that good? Man, me proud!!
5:52 Not a PB but close.
2 min breath up.
1 min deep normal breathing. Open lungs up, breath into diaphragm, pit of stomach, back. Clear mind, relax body, release tension.
30 seconds: purge as much Co2 as possible.
30 seconds: normal breathing again.
Laying down, eyes closed, let mind drift into what ever it wants to.
Observe contractions, relax through them. That’s about it.
8 minutes flat. Is that good? I think I could do 10 with some practice. I was just messing around, no big deal. Will that get me to those 120 foot groupers?
i did 2:30 by hyperventilating which i know is not good because c02 buildup is what gives us the urge to breath so with out that drive we faint and stop breathing, but its the only way i can do it, so what other technique can i use?
2:30 – 40 second breathup…deep slow inhaling and exhaling holding at each end for 5 seconds about every other breath, followed by a few quicker breaths and packing in as much air as possible then relax.
I haven’t had any training. I could probably use some as I’m sure I’m doing something wrong and I’d love to increase my bottom time.
2:37 I have no “build up or technique” though I would like to learn some safe methods of increasing my endurance. I free dive the springs in North Florda, down to around 60ish feet or so, I also spearfish in shallower water. Any tips would be great.

The key to longer bottom time is practice, practice, practice. Learn from champion freedivers and what they have gone through. Absorb those key important issues esp useful ones to suit your need and drop the unneccessary ones. Listen to yourself and stay focus(mind and body should be like water)
Dive safely and have fun!
4minitss 3seconds now i only need the wind to die down and I’ll be able to hold my breath for reel. I basically just berthed easy for a couple minutes then hyperventilated for a couple seconds to expel co2 and then breathed easy for a couple minutes longer. relaxed, closed my eyes emptied my mind and chilled I’m not a pro but the only thing I can suggest is to hold your breath in your comfort zone and don’t ever push yourself to hard and if you are testing your breath hold just like with diving there should be someone keeping an eye on you. A good way to know that your buddy hasn’t passed out is by holding their finger in your hand if it goes limp its probably a good time to get him out of the water. You’re gona feel pretty dumb if you die holding your breath in your hot tub
