100lb Cubera Snapper Spearfishing

The video says it all.

I wasn’t even planning on shooting anything this dive just filming Chuck harassing the Mangrove Snappers.

After he headed for the surface I continued down and got into the Jewfish which were from 350-500lbs, some real monsters.

Right in the middle of two huge Jewfish I saw a square tail and total relaxed this giant Cubera Snapper comes right to me.

Stoked I had the video camera in hand but not so excited that the resolution was set on EMAIL size.  Rookie mistake.  If you are looking for a reference.  The Jewfish are over 6 feet long and 400+ lbs.

Huuuuuuuge Cubera

Awesome video! Did you get him? I’ve shot Cubes in places that would stone 99% of fish in the ocean and it just pissed them off. I shot a big one almost point blank in key west and he bolted deep into the “beams” lost forever. People who think cobia are hard to stone haven’t tried to stone a cubera!

Great vid! I assume you made it back to the surface, ha ha.

That Cubera was looking for trouble it looks like.

Was that screeching sound of your reel or just you screaming :-) Maybe someday I will get a fish that can make the reel sound like that!

    Thanks for sharing the thrill!
