Today was one of the nicest days I’ve had on the water in… OK I won’t go there but today was beautiful.
As soon as we got on the water there was a giant thunderhead sitting on the best spot so we diverted and hit the “runner up”.
As you can see it wasn’t that bad of a choice. I made a few dives with the camera while the boys warmed up and there was so much life it was amazing. The bait this time of year has been ridiculous and there are some camera shots I have been trying get but haven’t been able to make it happen so today was a good chance to catch up and get some shots.
Well…. Nolan was in the right place at the right time and we spent the day going back and forth taking pics and shooting fish.
Coming up from a dive with the camera underneath the spadefish I videoed a solid Amberjack just chilling out waiting his turn to attack the bait. As quickly and quietly as I could I got the boat and the girls gave me my pole spear and I was able to get a dive on him before he figured out what the master plan was.
When we designed the Riffe Pole Spear we had big pelagics and freeswimming fish in mind and I wanted something that was fast and still had good punch. The breakaway set up is perfectly suited for shooting big amberjacks and cobia but unfortunately I had only a straight shaft with a single flopper.
I’ll share the video and some better story down the line but for now check out a few pics.
Fish weighed in at 55lbs and was shot with a Riffe Pole Spear 8ft with 100ft Armor Spectra float line attached.
