This is the picture that we are talking about

I can't do the original quote justice that started it all so go to the Spearblog Facebook page and have a ball with it.

Ok so now its your chance to return the favor to the uninformed.
I’m all for saving the oceans but what really annoys me is when people speak about things they don’t know about. I am at fault as everyone one is on occasion but am always quick to call myself out even and my friends will not hesitate to call BS on me either. When you represent something as grandiose as you claim, (saving the oceans), do your research, don’t talk out of your ass, and try to at least sound intelligent when you make claims…
Here’s your chance to chime in and have some fun with them.
If you haven’t already, join Spearblog on Facebook and check out the pic, click on it and see what all the fuss is about. Trust me you’ll have fun.
I’m sure you have had experience in the past with sharks in areas where people feed them and seen the reactions of those same predators when someone dives there without food and the attention they get.

I saw this the other day, yet another disturbing photo of what I refer to as “shark-showboating” being endorsed by Ocean Defender. I “Unliked” their page several months ago over this very same issue and I’m sticking to my guns on this position (for some reason their posts still show up now and again on my wall.) Please respond and let me know if my position is correct or not. My comment on their wall is a reflection of how I was taught/raised to treat animals in the ocean by my Grandfather who fished and dove regularly up until his death when he drowned in the Molokai channel back in 93′. So it’s important to me to know if I have the correct attitude/notions regarding this issue.

My comment on the Ocean Defender wall: “I’m still unclear as to why Ocean Defender supports this type of diving behavior. Showboating with sharks is NEVER responsible behavior. And contrary to popular belief, this does not help people to have a new-found respect for the creatures. People who respect the ocean and the animals who live in the ocean do not play games like this to make some point that sharks are gentle benevolent animals. People who know and love and respect the ocean already know that shark-finning is wrong; that not all sharks are aggressive man-eaters. Furthermore they know that keeping a safe distance is the best thing to do when encountering these animals during a dive. People who do not know this about sharks – I highly doubt this is helping them to become any less ignorant.”

10 out of 10 divers in Bloody Bay agree that feeding sharks is a bad idea.

  3. I remember hearing about a “shark tour” company out of Oahu that kept having their boats sunk by vandals during the night. I wonder why…
